Year 3 & 4 (Lower Key Stage 2)
Within Lower Key Stage 2 we take a twofold approach at the beginning of the year. We ensure that the new Year 3 children have a tailored transition period, that starts in the last term of Year 2 and extends into Year 3, with teaching that is familiar in style and content to that they have experienced in Year 2. The Year 4 children continue to be extended through the challenge levels of tasks and the amount of work they are expected to produce.
Across both year groups, the knowledge rich opportunities given to them, inside and outside the classroom, refines their ability to be independent and collaborative learners, able to work for increasing periods of time individually and in a group. Skill development takes into account our school values, so the children can successfully work with and alongside all others in the class. Academic and emotional support is available 1:1 and in a small group with an adult as needed, both within and outside of lessons, to ensure the children feel secure and are able to reach their full potential.
Our approach develops children who leave the Lower Key Stage 2 as individuals who can form their own opinions, start to justify these to others and can talk equally as well to adults and children alike.
